Life At A Portrait Studio

Warning, this post is not for the faint of heart. It is also not responsible for sudden rises in blood pressure, strange animosity or an intense desire to join NanoWriMo. These symptoms can usually be attributed to conversing with Millard.

Working at a portrait studio can be stressful. Temper tantrums, meltdowns, hysterical crying, and THEN you have to deal with the kids. There's angry customers, kids that hit and throw things and try to run away, moms that blame you for their kid not having model worthy pictures...
Did I mention I love my job?

Perspective

It's amazing how much things can change based on how you look at it.
I had the best summer ever! I took a trip to Michigan to visit a friend I haven't seen in two years. While I was there I went kayaking, saw the clearest stars ever, went down a 200 foot slip n' slide with the youth group, made a dress and learned to swing dance. When I got back I went to North Carolina, had a great time at the beach, and outran Hurricane Irene.

Peter Pan and Why I'll Never Grow Up

Have you ever heard the question, 'So what do you want to be when you grow up?' Of course you have. Unfortunately, I will never have a good answer to this question. Simply because I don't plan on ever growing up. What most people don't know is that Peter Pan eventually did grow up. Robin Williams plays the grown up Peter who had forgotten all about his childhood with the lost boys in the 1991 movie 'Hook'. It's all about how he must remember his childhood and, in essence, become that same boy in order to save his children.

Why My Voicemail is for the Morgue

Most people have a voicemail that goes something like "Hi, this is ____. Leave me a mesage." Or some other atrociously boring voicemail incredibly similiar to that. After answering the phone with "County Morgue, you stab 'em, we slab 'em," "You kill 'em, we chill 'em." "Kelly's pool hall, Kelly speaking." (the latter being in memory of my Grandpa who used that line) Or my brother's personal favorite, "Guido's pizza, we don't deliver and the box costs extra, how can I help you?" I decided that I had had enough of it!

It's a Classic Line and Other Miscommunications

We were sitting at dinner one night when my then-two-year-old sister decided to say 'what's up doc?' every time she bit a carrot. This of course drove my dad crazy since he was sitting next to her, and she seemed to only eat carrots the entire time we were sitting at the table. Finally, in an attempt to get her to stop, someone asked her where it was from. Of course, we all knew very well it was from Bugs Bunny. But she didn't quite see it that way. She informed us 'it's a classic line'. No one had ever told her that, and to this day we still don't know where she got that from. Sometimes, we don't all think on our feet quite as quick as she did.

Hairdryers and Bad? Hair Days

Millard wanted funny anecdotes from life in a familly of twelve, so I decided to write about something completely normal here and see how normal everyone else thinks it is!
It's amazing how the perspective of a child changes everything. Today I turned my hairdryer on and immediately there is a pattering of small feet and my less-than-two-year-old brother promptly appears in the doorway. Anyone who has had siblings around this age is witness to this strange phenomenon.

So I always said I would never blog, mainly because I have nothing of interest to say (living in a family of twelve is pretty boring, you know). But then I heard that you could blog about book reviews. Doable? Well, seeing as how I read books more than I eat, I'd say yes! That being said, I highly doubt I'll blog about much else, probably because there's not many people interested in listening. Of course I would hate to disappoint so I'm sure it'll be just as full of sarcasm as I am, the occasional instructions to minions and rambling in general. :)
